MESSAGE FROM JEFFREY S. DAVIS, CHAIR, THE MONTEFIORE FOUNDATION: MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OUR RESIDENTS

Many years ago, Elaine Rocker, of blessed memory, and past chair of The Montefiore Foundation, asked me to serve as The Montefiore Foundation board chair and I told her I had too many business commitments. Three years ago, I agreed to serve as board chair after being assured it would entail only four meetings a year, even though it’s more like four meetings a month! All kidding aside, I have enjoyed my tenure as chair as well as the many years I have spent on the Foundation Board, which I will be leaving to serve on the Montefiore Board of Directors.

The past three years have been rewarding as I look back on our many accomplishments including building The David and Freda Robinson Residence… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

RABBI’S MESSAGE: A HERO AMONG US

In New York City, a homeless man fell from a subway station platform. Though some stood by in horror, helplessly afraid to do no more than call the police, a brave, young man jumped onto the tracks to the rescue. Within moments, he lifted the fallen man to safety and became a hero.

The rescuer, whose name was not revealed, showed true courage in the face of danger… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

MESSAGE FROM DEBBIE ROTHSCHILD, DIRECTOR, THE MONTEFIORE FOUNDATION: THE TEAM BEHIND THE FUNDRAISING

I have the good fortune to work every day knowing what I accomplish makes a difference to the patients, residents and families at Montefiore, The Weils and those in the community. With each and every initiative, we move closer to having the resources to provide the best in quality care. We all know the healthcare landscape is uncertain. We also know that it takes financial resources to do what we do – addressing our residents’ needs. You, as a community, understand these needs and continually respond accordingly.
Over the past few years we have made great strides in our fundraising efforts. We have increased our annual campaign support… (Click on the newsletter link above for more…)

Creating successful results in cooking requires the right ingredients. You add a tablespoon of this, a cup of that, sprinkled with seasonings – all to make the perfect dish.

Our volunteer services program is similar. Our volunteers add their own ingredients of kindness, compassion, creativity and love to the work that they do each and every day.

In addition, each of our volunteers at Montefiore and The Weils, are different and special but together, create something that everyone enjoys. Volunteers are a key ingredient resulting in  our recipe of success.

As a nonprofit organization and community leader in dementia care, Montefiore has partnered with producers of the film documentary, “Glen Campbell: I”ll Be Me,” to spread the word that the 5.5 million affected by Alzheimer’s and the more than 15 million caregivers negotiating the everyday difficulties are not alone.

“One of the most remarkable documentaries in recent years. You do not want to miss this movie.”

–Richard Roeper, Film Critic, Chicago Sun-Times

View this three minute trailer and see firsthand why this film is so important:

In 2011, music legend Glen Campbell set out on an unprecedented tour across America. They thought it would last 5 weeks, instead it went for 151 spectacular, sold-out shows over a triumphant year-and-a-half across America.

What made this tour extraordinary was that Glen had recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He was told to hang up his guitar and prepare for the inevitable. Instead, Glen and his wife went public with his diagnosis and announced that he and his family would set out on a “Goodbye Tour.”

“In a year of moving docs, ‘Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me’ may take the cake – and an Oscar nomination.”

–Scott Feinberg, The Hollywood Reporter

The film documents this amazing journey as he and his family attempt to navigate the wildly unpredictable nature of Glen’s progressing disease using love, laughter and music as their medicine of choice.

Special appearances include Bruce Springsteen, The Edge, Paul McCartney, Blake Shelton, Sheryl Crow, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, Taylor Swift, Steve Martin, Chad Smith and Bill Clinton among many others.
